Jose Mourinho would ensure that Mesut Ozil would be a success at Manchester United, according to former Chelsea star Claude Makelele.

Despite a positive update from his agent a week ago, Ozil appears destined to leave Arsenal, be it in January or at the end of the season when his current deal expires.

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho, his former manager at Real Madrid, have been credited with a strong interest in the Germany international with reports on Thursday claiming he has already told his teammates he is destined for a move to Old Trafford.

After failing to fully justify his £42.5million price tag since his move from the Spanish giants four years ago, Makelele is confident Mourinho is capable of helping Ozil restore is reputation as one of the world’s best playmakers.

‘When you talk about the top players you want them to be in a good team and always putting in a performance the way you want,’ Makelele told beIN Sports.

Paranoid? Jose Mourinho bites back at Antonio Conte criticism Jose Mourinho has hit back at Antonio Conte (Picture: Getty)

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho bit back at Chelsea manager Antonio Conte last night and admitted he ‘doesn’t speak’ to the Italian.
Conte claimed Mourinho was obsessed with Chelsea after the Portuguese boss appeared to take thinly-veiled dig at the Italian for blaming his side’s results on injury.

The pair clashed in United’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Stamford Bridge in March and Mourinho told Conte he will remain Chelsea’s greatest ever manager until he matches his tally of three league titles with the club.
United face Huddersfield at the John Smith’s stadium today and Mourinho had a message for Conte before the clash.

‘I don’t speak to him,’ said Mourinho.
‘I don’t know why he speaks to me but that is no problem or maybe it is not his fault and it is the journalists fault when they pass to him the wrong message.

‘There are managers all over the world that by philosophy they prefer to speak about injuries, they prefer to try to find the excuse of a hypothetical failure based on injuries.

‘Since last season we had big injuries and last season you know that without Lukaku, Zlatan was even more important for us and [everyone knows] what Pogba means for us.’

Mourinho claims he never moans about injuries but he did admit to complaining about United’s fixture list.
‘Our philosophy is not to moan, to cry [about injuries]. I moan about other things, I cry about fixtures, [having] no time to rest in between matches,’ said Mourinho.
‘I moan that I don’t understand that we play Saturday after Wednesday when we should play Sunday. I moan about this all the time but not about injuries.’

Rio appeared alongside other celebrities who all talk of the effects of losing family members and the impact that it has on them or their children.
The video, themed One More Minute, reveals what they would say to that person if they had just a little longer to talk.

‘If I was to ask Rebecca, I would ask her about what she wanted with the children growing up at different stages, poignant moment in their development. I’d tell her I love her,’ he says before pausing and holding back the tears. ‘There’s loads.’

Speaking to The Manchester Evening News about the new charity video, Child Bereavement UK Chief Executive Ann Chalmers said:

‘The film touches on the longing that many bereaved families tell us they have, to be able to have more time with the person who has died.

‘In our 23 years of experience of supporting children, young people and families, this is something that is commonly expressed and that many people will relate to.
‘Child Bereavement UK deals with a subject that many people find too unbearable to contemplate, the untimely deaths of parents and children, but every year, child bereavement is experienced by thousands of families in the UK,’ she said.

Chelsea staff believe 'dead man walking' Antonio Conte will be sackedAntonio Conte is under increasing pressure at Stamford Bridge (Picture: PA)

Chelsea staff fear Antonio Conte is a ‘dead man walking’ at Stamford Bridge and expect the Italian to be sacked before he’s able to complete a second season at the club.

The former Juventus boss won the Premier League and got Chelsea to the FA Cup final in his first season at the club but he’s been on collision course with his board this season over their failure to meet his expectations in the transfer market.

Conte was unhappy that the board didn’t sign a number of his targets, including Romelu Lukaku, Fernando Llorente and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Chelsea already trail Premier League leaders Manchester City by nine points and are without a win in three matches following their 3-3 draw with Roma in the Champions League.

Conte’s mood around the training ground has been noted by the club’s heirachy and there’s a sense that tensions are beginning to boil over over the club’s mixed start to the season.
Chelsea have had 13 different managers during Roman Abramovich’s 14 years at the club and the club’s staff believe it’s only a matter of time before Conte goes, according to Duncan Castles.
The club’s staff are said to be referring to Conte as a ‘dead man walking’ and believe he’s unable to survive the tensions growing behind the scenes.

Chelsea’s playing staff are also said to be growing increasingly frustrated with Conte’s training methods and believe the Italian is contributing to the club’s injury problems.
Conte pushes his team in training but the Blues are having to combat with European football this term, a luxury they avoided last term as his side romped to the title.

Frank Lampard admits Chelsea star should not have been allowed to leaveTammy Abraham’s loan to Swansea was an error, says Frank Lampard. (Reuters)

Frank Lampard believes Chelsea made a mistake in allowing Tammy Abraham to leave on loan this summer.
The 20-year-old scored 26 goals in 48 appearances during his loan spell with Bristol City last season and has found the net five times in 10 games for Swansea City this term.

Michy Batshuayi struggled to impress in Alvaro Morata’s absence when the Spaniard was sidelined with a hamstring injury earlier this month.
And Lampard feels his former club should have kept hold of Abraham as an alternative option to Morata.

‘For Chelsea as a club, yes it is a mistake,’ Lampard told BT Sport.
‘It’s not [a mistake] for Tammy as I don’t think he would have played so many games. Now you see him playing regularly and he is improving as a player.

‘Chelsea could say ‘we didn’t feel Tammy was going to play’, if you say Morata was fit all season then it is great experience for him and he comes back next season as a well-rounded player.
‘But now Morata is injured it seems a mistake. You can’t have it both ways. I know I’ve sat on the fence there but you improve the individual by sending him on loan, but as a club now you go ‘maybe we could have kept him’

Arsenal trying to block Mesut Ozil's Manchester United transferMesut Ozil wants to join Manchester United (Picture: Getty)

Arsenal are trying to block Mesut Ozil’s hopes of joining Manchester United next summer by selling him in the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has reportedly told his team-mates that he will be moving to Old Trafford.

Ozil spent three seasons playing under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and the Portuguese boss referred to the Germany playmaker as the finest attacking midfielder in the world in 2015.
Arsenal had been keen on keeping Ozil and his agent recently said talks were progressing well over a new deal.

However, Ozil has made his mind up on a move to Old Trafford and that would come as an embarrasing blow to the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger has shunned Ozil in recent weeks and he will look to find a January buyer for Ozil to save the embarrasment of him joining the Red Devils, according to the Daily Mail.
Inter Milan are known to be interested in the German and Arsenal could even lower their asking price to move him out of the Premier League.
Arsenal travel to Goodison Park on Sunday to play Everton and it’s likely that Ozil will start on the bench.

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar broke the news that he was leaving Barcelona at Lionel Messi’s wedding.
The Brazilian completed a world record £198million move to the French capital in August after the Ligue 1 giants met his release clause.

Barcelona could never have imagined a club would activate such a hefty release clause and believed Neymar would spend the rest of his career at the Camp Nou.
However, former Barcelona captain Xavi has revealed the Brazilian superstar broke the news to his team-mates at Messi’s wedding in July.

‘He said to us at Messi’s wedding that he wanted to change club,’ said Xavi.
‘I said to him but why? He said “I am not happy in Barcelona, I prefer to leave, to have a new experience in Europe at PSG” and finally he did, it was his decision, we must respect it.
‘I think with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, PSG have a great chance to win the Champions League this season.’

Jose Mourinho labelled a hypocrite following clash with Antonio ConteJose Mourinho made the comments on Wednesday after his side beat Benfica 1-0 (Getty)

Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has called Jose Mourinho a hypocrite after the Manchester United manager’s recent comments.

On Wednesday night Mourinho criticised coaches who ‘cry and cry and cry’ about injuries.
The comment was seen as a thinly veiled dig at his Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte, who has been vocal about his side’s problems on the fitness front. The Italian was even moved to respond, telling Mourinho to focus on his own club.

Nicholas pointed out that Mourinho himself was very vocal last season about Manchester United’s injury problems. The Portuguese coach regularly used it as an excuse to justify his club’s poor form in the Premier League.

‘He [Mourinho] cried all last year and all of last season at Manchester United,’ Nicholas told Sky Sports. ‘He actually got it to a fine art at one stage, he always looked miserable and still looks like he’s miserable.

‘He likes to take on the world and play this, “I’m the enemy,” card and he’s very talented at it. But where this comes from [I don’t know], I mean I hear him moan all the time.’

Manchester United have recently been without central midfielders Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini and Nicholas says Mourinho has been highly vocal of the fact.
‘What he’s doing is saying, “I’m not moaning about it”, but I keep hearing him talking about Fellaini and Pogba.’

Mutiny: Antonio Conte faces crisis as Chelsea stars turn against himIs the Italian feeling the heat? (Picture: AFP/Getty)

Chelsea players are turning on Antonio Conte due to his intense training schedule and believe he is at fault for harming their title defence and for players picking up injuries this season, reports claim.
The Blues boss enjoyed a fine debut season in English football, guiding Chelsea to the Premier League title but his second campaign has been disappointing thus far.

Chelsea have lost their past two Premier League matches and are already nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City, having suffered defeats to Pep Guardiola’s side and bottom side Crystal Palace.
A late Eden Hazard header against Roma saw Chelsea narroly avoid three straight defeats but injuries to David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko only added to the sense of crisis.

With N’Golo Kante and Victor Moses already out for several weeks and Alvaro Morata only just returning, the injury problems just keep mounting for the Italian.
And Chelsea stars are begging him to tweak his training schedule in order to allow them more rest to avoid injury, according to the Times.
His schedule was less of a problem last season due to the lack of demands from European football but with a small squad and a battle on four fronts in the 2017/18 campaign, Chelsea are being stretched thin.
And if he doesn’t alter his ways, there could be serious unrest at Stamford Bridge.

Mesut Ozil is reportedly so confident he will soon be a Manchester United player that he has told his Arsenal team-mates he is set to join the Red Devils.

Arsenal are braced for offers for Ozil in January with the German’s contract set to expire in the summer.
Ozil can leave the Emirates for nothing in June, which has prompted Arsenal to consider cashing in on one of their most prized assets in the next transfer window.
Jose Mourinho is eyeing a reunion with the player he coached at Real Madrid with United tipped to make a January move.

The Mirror claim Ozil has already told his current team-mates he will be joining United despite the Red Devils yet to make an official approach for him.

Inter remain the only side to have contacted Arsenal about Ozil’s availability.
Reports of a rift between Ozil and his team-mates have increased in recent weeks while it has been suggested that Arsene Wenger is confident his team can cope without the talented playmaker.

Ozil has struggled to keep hold of his place this season, coming off the bench against Watford before being left out of the Europa League squad that traveled to Red Star Belgrade on Thursday.
Arsenal fans hit out at Ozil after he missed a superb chance against Watford on the way to a 2-1 defeat for the Gunners.
Ozil has frustrated Arsenal in their attempts to sign him up to a new deal by insisting on a deal worth £350,000 a week.

Arsenal are not prepared to pay Ozil more than £275,000 a week, but even that offer – made last season – is now being reconsidered.
Prizing Ozil away from Arsenal would be a huge coup for Mourinho, regardless of his current form.
United are two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and will look to continue their push for the title in the new year.
The addition of Ozil could provide the impotence the Red Devils will need in the second half of the season.

Relief for Arsenal, Liverpool & Man Utd as Premier League confirms Christmas schedule
The Premier League schedule for the Christmas period has been confirmed (Picture: Getty)
The Premier League has confirmed no fixtures will take place on Christmas Eve after a number of matches threatened to be moved for live television coverage.
Arsenal’s home clash against Liverpool was understood to be under consideration to be moved from 23 to 24 December, but it will now take place on Friday, 22 December at 19:45 GMT.

Three other fixtures have also been moved from 24 December – Chelsea will now face Everton at 12:30 while Tottenham and Manchester United’s trips to Burnley and Leicester will kick-off on the Saturday evening.

Premier League fixture amendments - Christmas schedule

Friday, 22 December: Arsenal v Liverpool (19:45)
Saturday, 23 December: Everton v Chelsea (12:30), Burnley v Tottenham (17:30), Leicester v Manchester United (19:45)
Tuesday, 26 December: Tottenham v Southampton (12:30), Liverpool v Swansea (17:30)
Wednesday, 27 December: Newcastle v Manchester City (19.45)
Thursday, 28 December: Crystal Palace v Arsenal (20:00)

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said: ‘We appreciate this is the peak time for supporters attending and watching the Premier League.

‘With matches scheduled on Christmas weekend for the first time in 11 years, the process of selecting games for live broadcast has been a more complex one than usual and I would like to thank our broadcast partners and clubs for their co-operation and flexibility.

‘When selecting matches, the broadcasters are using the rights that we the Premier League and the clubs have sold them, and they should therefore not be criticised for doing so.’
A Premier League fixture has not taken place on Christmas Eve since 1995 – up until 1957, a full programme of Football League fixtures was set for Christmas Day, with the reverse fixture played on Boxing Day.

Tyson Fury warns Anthony Joshua: My Muhammad Ali beats your Mike Tyson(Picture: Getty)

Tyson Fury has warned Anthony Joshua he will fight like Muhammad Ali if his British rival comes at him like Mike Tyson in their potential super-fight.

The heavyweight pair are determined to face one another in the ring, but Fury is currently blocked from competing as UKAD continue to investigate an anti-doping charge against him.
Fury has promised fans he will return to the ring and suggested recently he was targeting three fights in 2018.
UKAD have yet to rule on whether Fury will be banned, but the Brit is already thinking about how he can beat Joshua.

Fury has cast himself as heavyweight legend Ali up against Joshua, who recently revealed he wants to be as destructive as Tyson was in his prime.

Joshua wants to become the most feared fighter on the planet and believes he needs to take notes of how Tyson became such a master of stopping opponents working on the inside.

‘I can take people to the trenches and I can turn it into a fight about heart, but I want to show my finesse and Mike Tyson wasn’t known for his heart, he was known for his technique, he was known for how great he was on the inside,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘A lot of fighters aren’t known just for being sluggers and stuff.
‘They are known for being great fighters and that’s where I’m trying to get to.
‘That’s why I don’t call myself the greatest or the most feared fighter, or this or that, because I know I’m going to get to that.

‘But I know I’ve got bags of heart and I’m willing to go through it to get to that.’
Fury seems determined to return to action, but Joshua’s focus is on defending his titles next week in Cardiff.

Joshua was preparing to fight Kubrat Pulev, but the Bulgarian has been forced to withdraw and Carlos Takam has stepped in on late notice.

Chelsea should close their academy, it's a disgrace, claims Neville
Antonio Conte has bemoaned the size of his injury-hit squad. (PA Wire)

Phil Neville has branded Chelsea’s youth policy a ‘disgrace’ and believes the club should close their academy.
Following Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, Antonio Conte admitted that he was struggling to cope with his dwindling squad size due to injuries to key players.

But Neville feels Conte should place his trust in Chelsea’s youth players instead of allowing them to leave on loan.
‘They have to go out on loan because Conte’s coming out saying they’ve only got 11 players,’ Neville told BBC Five Live.

‘If you were the Under-23s manager, or part of the squad that played in the Champions League Youth League today, you’d be thinking: ‘I’ve got no future at this football club’.
‘If he’s saying they’ve only got 11 players… [players should be saying] ‘give me a chance’.

‘That’s what [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek, [Nathaniel] Chalobah, Lewis Baker and all these players who are playing for England’s youth teams and winning tournaments for Chelsea, they are saying ‘give us a chance’… they won’t.
‘And to be fair it’s a disgrace, they should close their academy, Chelsea.’

Benfica goalkeeper Mile Svilar reveals what Romelu Lukaku said to him after Man Utd's win

Benfica goalkeeper Mile Svilar has revealed that he was given words of encouragement from Romelu Lukaku after his error gifted Manchester United a 1-0 win in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Jose Mourinho’s side have now registered three victories in the group stage but required a mistake from the 18-year-old goalkeeper to earn three points against the Portuguese champions.
United’s goal came from Marcus Rashford’s free-kick as Svilar was caught out due to his high starting position. The 18-year-old managed to catch the ball but the momentum took him over the line.

After the match, Lukaku and several United players consoled Svilar, who broke Iker Casillas’ record to become the youngest goalkeeper to start a Champions League game.

Nemanja Matic reveals Jose Mourinho told Man Utd players to target Benfica starMatic spent three years at Benfica before returning to Chelsea (Picture: Getty)

Nemanja Matic has revealed that Jose Mourinho deliberately targeted Benfica’s young goalkeeper in Manchester United’s Champions League victory on Wednesday night.

Teenage shot-stopper Mile Svilar made his Champions league debut for the Portuguese giants and became the competition’s youngest ever goalkeeper at just 18 years and 52 days.
But despite starting the match brightly, he will be remembered for his role in Marcus Rashford’s decisive goal, misreading the flight of a free-kick into the box and inadvertently carrying the ball over the line when he attempted to catch it.

But far from the incident being a random and unfortunate moment for Svilar, it was actually the result of a deliberate ploy from Mourinho to test the teenager.
Asked if Mourinho had given his side special instructions to target the Benfica goalkeeper, Matic told BT Sport: ‘Yeah. The manager said to us to shoot and to give some crosses towards him because he’s young and it was his first game.

‘Of course that he said [to test him], but this is football and I know that he is a great goalkeeper and I wish him all the best for the future and he’s the future of Benfica for sure.’
Svilar was visibly distraught after the match and gestured an apology to the home crowd, receiving some words of support – and even a hug – from Romelu Lukaku at full-time.
Far from blaming Svilar for his error, former Liverpool midfielder turned pundit Steven Gerrard felt the real culprit was Benfica boss Rui Vitoria.
‘The mistakes will overshadow all the good bits he did out there,’ Gerrard said. ‘Everyone will be talking about this mistake but it’s about the manager. The manager has stitched him up when he’s not ready for Champions League football.’

Eden Hazard admits he is unsure why Antonio Conte decided to bring him off in the final stages of Chelsea’s draw with Roma on Wednesday evening.
The Belgium international scored twice in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge, but with 10 minutes to go, the forward was replaced by Willian.

The decision did not go down well with some sections of Chelsea fans, who have criticised Willian for his form in recent games.
And when asked about the decision, Hazard conceded that he was unclear about Conte’s reason.

‘I pushed to the maximum, I’ve just come back from the injury, so he made his choice.
‘Sometimes the guy who comes on the pitch scores the goal, so I have nothing to say about this.’

Obsessed? Antonio Conte hits back at Jose Mourinho after subtle dig at ChelseaAntonio Conte has hit back at Jose Mourinho (Picture: Getty)

Antonio Conte warned Jose Mourinho not to talk about Chelsea and to focus on Manchester United after his side’s 3-3 draw with Roma at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho appeared to take a thinly-veiled dig at Conte after his side’s 1-0 win against Benfica by saying he wouldn’t ‘cry’ about injuries like some other managers in the league.

Mourinho didn’t specify that he was talking about Chelsea but Conte has recently bemoaned the losses of Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante to injuries.
And the Italian was quick to respond to Mourinho after his side’s draw, telling the former Chelsea boss to stop talking about the Blues.

‘A lot of time Mourinho has to see what happens at Chelsea,’ Conte said.
‘A lot of time, also last season. I think he has to think about his team and stop… to look at himself, not the others.’

Manchester United legend has slammed Arsenal by claiming the Gunners are behind ‘most teams in the Premier League’ this season.

The Gunners have collected 13 points from their first eight matches and lost 2-1 to Watford in their last outing.

Arsenal made a hazardous start to the season by winning just one of their first three matches and face a tricky trip to face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Gunners watched on this week as the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham impressed in the Champions League before their Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade.

Roger Federer suggests he's not actually the GOAT after allIs Federer the GOAT? (Picture: Getty)

Roger Federer is not convinced he is the greatest male tennis player of all time despite winning more Grand Slams than any other player.

The Swiss has won an incredible 19 major titles in his career, three more than nearest rival Rafael Nadal, and has been widely branded as the GOAT (greatest of all time) for his achievements.

While Fed fans are adamant he’s the best, there’s still plenty of discussion among modern-day supporters about whether he’s even the greatest of this era, with Nadal and Novak Djokovic also among the most successful players in history.
And Federer admitted that it’s hard to just use the total number of Grand Slam titles as an indicator of who is the finest star to grace a tennis court, although he’s content with his own achievements.

Most Grand Slam titles

19 – Federer
16 – Nadal
14 – Sampras
12 – Djokovic
12 – Emerson

‘Like Bjorn Borg, he only went to Australia once or twice because it was during the Christmas, and he was happy at home instead of travelling,’ Federer told Gulf News. ‘I worked extremely hard to have a great career, and sometimes have chased records.

‘But you know, it’s hard to judge who is the best of all time, you see Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Rod Laver, Rafael Nadal, Ivan Lendl, Jimmy Connors and Pete Sampras.

‘There are so many players [who] did fabulous things, so I tried my best with my career. I didn’t expect myself playing maybe this well at this age. I’m happy with what I achieved, and hope I can keep going.’

Sampras has won an impressive 14 Slams (Picture: Getty)

Speaking about his rivalry with one of the other contenders for the GOAT crown, Federer also explained how a change of style has helped him improve his head-to-head against Nadal in recent times, although he won’t be resting on his laurels after his Shanghai Masters win.

‘I think I’m serving consistently better,’ he added. ‘I get easier power ever since I switched to the bigger racket. I feel I’m connecting better on the backhand and I’m serving good.
‘I think it was hard for me to consistently just keep on attacking with the backhand, but now it seems almost not a problem.
‘But that’s no guarantee, he is gonna keep working. Rafael is a great player and extreme difficult to play against, because he can use his left hand do everything.
‘But what I see is to win the title, not so much beating Rafael, but of course beating him is more special.’

Steven Gerrard names Premier League club as 'big favourites' to win Champions LeagueSteven Gerrard says Manchester City have laid down a marker this season (Picture: Getty)

Steven Gerrard has named Manchester City as his ‘big favourite’ to win the Champions League this season.
Pep Guardiola’s City have made a sensational start to the 2017-18 campaign, winning seven of their eight league games to emerge as the early frontrunners in the Premier League title race.

They continued their impressive form in Europe on Tuesday night, securing a 2-1 victory over Napoli to ensure they have now taken nine points from their three Champions League group matches.
Liverpool legend Gerrard labelled City’s win over the Italians as a ‘statement performance’ and went so far as to say the Manchester club are now ‘big favourites’ to win the Champions League.

Asked about the impressive performances of English clubs in this year’s competition, Gerrard told BT Sport: ‘Some of them got kind groups so you’d expect them to progress, but they’ve been doing well.

‘The statement performance was City against a good Napoli side. City look real big favourites in this competition for me.’
Fellow former England star Rio Ferdinand added: ‘The last few years have been a bit of a transition [for the English clubs in Europe].
